CSA Policy & FAQ

Updated: May 29

Recipe Policy

No, we are not able to provide recipes in each bag. Although we share detailed info about the herbs and occasionally we might share our favorite recipes for veggies. We do not have a data-base of tried and true recipes, and to compile one is outside our capabilities. The diets of our customers can be very different, and nowadays, most folks have access to infinite sources of information in their pocket (Google, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.) If you are truly stumped for ideas, don't hesitate to reach out to us!

Pick-up Dates and Times Policy

You must pick-up your box during the allotted times for your pick-up site. If you have someone else pick-up your share for you, they must know and understand how it works, which will be detailed below. If you are not able to get your box on time, it is your responsibility to contact the pick-up site to make other arrangements! (see vacation policy (#5) below) Your box may not be available outside the pick-up times!

Pick-Up Policy

Deliveries are made weekly. You must pick up your share during the allotted times for your location. If you are unable to pick up in time, it is up to you to contact us (678) 744-3372 to make other arrangements, or if you give us advance notice by Tuesday at the latest we can keep your box at the farm for you to pick up there.

Make sure you take the right share. We offer two different share sizes, each with their own colored label that says the customers name and states the size of the share.

There will be a checklist at each location with your name on it, simply check your name off that list. If you send someone else to pick-up your share, they must understand how it works. Please remind them to grab the right size share with your name on it and check off your name.

Be respectful of the pick-up location. We are not charged to use these locations, so let’s make it as easy on them as possible. If you wish to save the rubber bands for us to reuse, please keep them until the last week of pick-up. IF YOU ARE NOT RESPECTFUL TO OUR PICK-UP SITES AND THEIR STAFF WE WILL FIRE YOU FROM THE CSA and issue a partial refund.

The CSA shares are either picked the same day or in our cooler over night but are not refrigerated at the pick-up site so in order to maintain the freshness of the produce, you must promptly store the produce once you are home. Simply putting the bag in the fridge is better than leaving it out, but everything will keep better if each item is stored in its ideal condition.

Share the Bounty, Share the Risk

Farming is inherently risky, and we are committed to doing everything possible to ensure a successful season. Each year brings unforeseen challenges, some more severe than others. These may include, but are not limited to: floods, droughts, excessive wind, extreme temperatures (both cold and heat), plant diseases, hail, pest damage, pesticide drift, cooler malfunctions, and vandalism. Except in the most extreme circumstances, you should receive the full value of your share. However, in some circumstances we will purchase outside produce to compensate for crop failures from local farms in our area.

Shared Food Safety Policy

We take extensive measures to ensure you receive high-quality and safe produce. To maintain freshness, we immediately cool harvested produce in the field using clean, potable well water. We store all items in the most favorable conditions for each crop and wash everything that benefits from washing with clean, potable well water. However, certain items are not washed due to specific reasons:

  1. They lose flavor when washed (e.g., most herbs).

  2. They do not store well when wet (e.g., basil, onions).

  3. They are easily damaged or bruised by handling (e.g., tomatoes).

  4. They can fill up with water when dunked (e.g., cabbage, Brussels sprouts, peppers).

That said, it's crucial that you wash everything in your share before eating it. Remember, most of our food grows outside, exposed to animals, bacteria, and fungi. While we do everything possible to ensure your produce is safe, it's important for you to do your part as well.

Vacation Policy

We understand that you might be out of town during the pick-up window, so here are a few options for handling your share:

  1. Find a Substitute: The easiest option for us is for you to arrange for a family member, friend, or neighbor to pick up your share. Ensure your substitute knows how the pick-up process works.

  2. Hold Your Box: If you notify us by the Tuesday before that week’s delivery, we can hold your box at the farm for you to pick up. We will store the contents in their ideal conditions and can hold the box for up to three, before the next pick-up.

  3. Forfeit a Week: If you notify us by the Monday before that week’s delivery, you can skip that week altogether.

  4. Donate Your Box: You can choose to have us donate your box.

Cancellation Policy

Since we plan our crops based on CSA subscriptions and invest time and resources for your share starting in late February, we are unable to issue ANY refunds once you have signed up. Our goal is to sell every share we offer, so reselling your share after the CSA program begins in mid-June may not be possible. If you find that the CSA is not for you, you might be able to find someone to buy your share from you or at least split the produce with you. We strive to clearly communicate what to expect from our CSA program, which is an excellent value for those who enjoy eating vegetables and cooking at home.

Communication Policy

We communicate important information to our CSA members through email including the week’s box contents. It is important that you read the emails that you receive from us, and we will be sure to highlight important information at the top of the email. We understand that you might not always have the time to read through the whole newsletter. Emailing us is the best way to reach us at info@bondsestateandgardens.org You may also text or call Robert at ( 404) 390-6370 if need be, but email is best.
